The Training Agenda of the Advanced CSPO

The Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner (A-CSPO) training builds on the foundations of your CSPO certification and helps you to deepen your knowledge and skills as a Product Owner.

In the training, you will not only gain deeper insights into the following topics, but also practical tools and techniques to work more effectively as a product owner and lead your product to success.

1. Advanced Product Vision and Product Strategy

Dive deeper into the art of creating a clear and compelling product vision. You will learn how to develop a long-term strategy and implement it in your daily work to deliver the greatest possible value.

2. Stakeholder Management

Managing stakeholder expectations and needs is essential. Learn advanced techniques and tools to communicate effectively with different stakeholder groups and involve them in the development process.

3. Advanced Backlog Management

Here you deepen your skills in dealing with the product backlog. You learn more about prioritisation techniques, cutting user stories and how to ensure that the backlog always meets the current requirements.

4. Metrics and Measurement

A key topic is understanding and applying metrics to measure progress, product quality and customer value. Your Certified Scrum Trainer will show you how to make data-driven decisions.

5. Product Discovery and Validation

When and how should new product ideas be validated? As part of the A-CSPO training, you will learn techniques for product discovery and validation of assumptions to ensure that your product actually meets market needs.

Bring Your Own Ideas & Questions

We encourage participants to bring their questions to the training. Any question and real-world example from your side will make everything you and others learn more tangible. It will also result in more energy throughout the training which is connected to better learning.

Advanced Certified Product Owner - FAQ

Whether a trainer offers his A-CSPO training as a modular program or as a 2- or 3-day workshop is up to his individual decision. The Scrum Alliance only specifies that at least 14 hours of live interaction with the trainer must have taken place during the training (live online) or at least 16 hours if the training is conducted in person.

However, the modular approach offers the opportunity to extend learning over a longer period of time, resulting in several advantages:

  1. Sustainable learning and direct application in practice: Spreading joint learning over a longer period allows you as participants to reflect on what you have learned and apply it in practice before moving on to the next module. This promotes a deeper understanding and better anchoring of knowledge on the one hand, and offers you and the other participants the opportunity to identify real challenges from your everyday life as a Product Owner and to discuss them in the following training sessions.
  2. Flexibility: A modular approach offers both providers and participants more flexibility in terms of scheduling and availability. You don't "drop out" for two or three days in a row, but can optimally integrate the training into your working day and remain accessible as a contact person for your product team.
  3. Individual support and adaptation of content: Due to the longer period that trainers and participants are in contact in a modular program, trainers are often able to better understand the individual needs of participants and respond more specifically to them.
Based on feedback and experiences from previous modules, trainers can adjust the content of the following modules if necessary to better address the needs of the group.
  4. Networking and community building: When a group meets regularly over a longer period of time, stronger bonds and networks can develop. This promotes exchange and collaboration between participants.
  5. Reduced information overload: Instead of presenting a large amount of information in a short, intensive period, a modular approach allows for a dosed transfer of knowledge, which often leads to a better understanding.

As an Agile Academy, it is important to us that you can learn sustainably and benefit from your training for a long time. That's why we encourage our trainers to offer advanced training in a modular format.

If it is still easier for you to take 2 or 3 days off from your daily work and conduct a training, look out for the compact versions of the A-CSPO training. Our training table provides information about the respective type of training.

Both the A-CSPO (Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner) and the PSPO-II (Professional Scrum Product Owner - Level II) are advanced certificates for Product Owners who already have basic knowledge in the field of Scrum and Product Ownership. However, they differ in their origin, focus, and some of the content covered:

1. Origin

The Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner, or A-CSPO for short, is the certificate from the Scrum Alliance, one of the largest and most well-known organizations issuing Scrum and Agile certificates.

On the other hand, the PSPO II certificate is issued by Scrum.org, an organization founded by Ken Schwaber, one of the co-founders of Scrum.

2. Focus

The A-CSPO training places great emphasis on a deeper engagement with the roles, responsibilities, and skills of the Product Owner, with the focus often on interaction and collaboration.

In the Personal Scrum Product Owner - Advanced Training, which can be taken to obtain the PSPO II certificate, it also deals with advanced techniques and concepts of Product Ownership. However, the training places more emphasis on understanding and applying principles and techniques to maximize value and support product development teams.

3. Content Differences

Although there are many overlaps in the topics covered, there may be differences in depth and approach to certain concepts. For example, the A-CSPO may focus more on topics such as stakeholder management and advanced visioning techniques, while the PSPO-II may place more emphasis on advanced release planning and metrics.

4. Prerequisites and Further Education

To be able to receive the Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner certificate after the A-CSPO training, you must have a valid CSPO certificate and be able to demonstrate some experience as a Product Owner. You simply enter this into your profile at the Scrum Alliance.

Scrum.org, on the other hand, does not require any specific previous certification to be able to receive the PSPO II certificate. However, they recommend that participants have previously completed the PSPO-I course and have experience in the role of the Product Owner.

Conclusion

Ultimately, the decision between A-CSPO and PSPO-II should be based on individual learning objectives, preferred training approaches, and the desired certification organization. Both courses are highly regarded in the industry and offer valuable insights and skills for aspiring and active Product Owners.

Certification for Teams & Companies

Book Your A-CSPO Course as Inhouse Workshop

Conducting an A-CSPO training in-house offers you and your company the following advantages with a minimum of 8 participants:

  • Tailored content: Through in-house training, the course content can be specifically adapted to the challenges and needs of your organisation, maximising the learning effect and applicability in everyday life.
  • Cost efficiency: From a group size of 8 participants, it is often more economical to organise in-house training, as travel costs and external event costs are eliminated.
  • Team building: When colleagues are trained together, it promotes team dynamics and understanding for each other. Shared learning experiences can strengthen teamwork and communication.
  • Confidentiality: In an internal training environment, confidential topics or specific company projects can be discussed more openly without revealing information to outsiders.
  • Flexibility: The date, duration and location of the training can be set according to the company's requirements, resulting in minimal disruption to business operations.

We will be happy to advise you individually on an offer. We look forward to your in-house request.
