Our Professional Scrum Master Certification
with Scrum.org CertificateIn an Agile Academy Scrum Master training, you will learn the skills and know-how to become an excellent Scrum Master. During the two- or three-day training, you will gain insight into the tools and methods that are relevant for this role.
Of course, it's not realistic to become an adept Scrum Master in just a few days. However, our outstanding trainers are known for guiding you in the right direction. In addition, we offer a companion online course that allows you to continue learning and deepening your knowledge even after completing the in-person course.
Scrum.org vs. Scrum Alliance Certification
At Agile Academy, we offer both Scrum.org Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I) trainings and Scrum Alliance Certified ScrumMaster® (CSM) trainings.
The choice between the two certifications depends mainly on your individual preferences and the desired focus. For example, in general, Scrum.org workshops are more focused on software development, while Scrum Alliance takes a more holistic approach. You can find out more about the differences in the FAQ section further down the page.
Agenda of the Professional Scrum Master 1
In our Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I) trainings, we cover the following topics intensively:
1. Introduction to Scrum, theory and principles
What is Scrum exactly and how does it work? How does it differ from traditional project management approaches?
Get a comprehensive introduction to Scrum and learn the theoretical foundations and principles. You will understand how Scrum as an agile framework revolutionizes product development and is based on empirical process control to enable continuous improvement.
We use simple tools and models so you can grasp and explain them. In addition, we show you how value is created over time. Of course, our Professional Scrum Trainers also bring in real-world experience reports.
2. Roles, Meetings and Artifacts in Scrum
What specific roles, meetings and artifacts play a role in Scrum? How do the Scrum Master, the Product Owner and the development team work together? And what responsibilities do they have?
Learn about the different roles and how meetings like Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review and Sprint Retrospective serve to foster collaboration and transparency.
In this part of the training, we also explain the different Scrum artifacts that enable clear alignment with customer requirements.
3. Agile Practices and Coaching
How can proven agile practices like continuous integration, test-driven development, and pair programming be used effectively? And how can you effectively fulfill your role as a coach and mentor?
Now that we've learned about Scrum, this part of the training is about how to use agile practices and coaching techniques to build and continuously improve your skills as a Scrum Master.
You will learn about different agile practices that can increase productivity and quality, and gain valuable insights on how to coach and support the team as a Scrum Master.
4. Scaling Scrum
How can Scrum be applied to larger projects and organizations? How can scaling frameworks help you take advantage of Scrum in complex environments?
In this part of the training, we will look at scaling Scrum. You will gain insights into different scaling patterns and frameworks such as Nexus and LeSS that will help you apply Scrum to larger projects and organizations. You will understand how to maintain the core principles of Scrum while successfully addressing scaling challenges.
5. Additional topics (especially for three-day trainings)
Depending on the pace of the class driven by the experience of participants, the number of participants, and a few other factors, we might even address some of the topics below during a two-day course:
- Organizational change and transformation
- Product Backlog creation and prioritization
- Stakeholder management
- Facilitation techniques for aligning a group of people
- Kanban as an additional tool/technique for helping teams and organizations succeed
- And other topics based on your request
Bring Your Own Ideas & Questions
We encourage participants to bring their questions to the training. Any question and real-world example from your side will make everything you and others learn more tangible. It will also result in more energy throughout the training which is connected to better learning.
FAQ about the Professional Scrum Master
The Professional Scrum Master I (PSMI I) is certified by Scrum.org, while the Certified Scrum Master (CSM) is certified by the Scrum Alliance. Both organizations are renowned and recognized in the agile community.
The certifications of both organizations basically pursue the same goal, but differ in the following aspects:
- Focus and Curriculum: PSM I places a strong focus on Scrum theory, principles and practical application of Scrum. The training focuses on developing a deep understanding of Scrum. CSM, on the other hand, provides a broader overview of agile concepts and methods besides Scrum, including agile practices and tools.
- Training Method and Certification Requirements: While you must attend a minimum two-day training course and pass an exam at the end of the course to earn the Certified Scrum Master certificate, course attendance is not mandatory for the Professional Scrum Master I exam. Theoretically, you can also register for the test directly at Scrum.org without taking the course and pay an examination fee. If you pass the test, you will receive your Professional Scrum Master I certificate. However, even in the case of a Scrum.org certificate, we recommend that you take part in a PSM I exam preparation training.
- Acceptance: Both PSM I and CSM are well-known certifications in the agile community. PSM I from Scrum.org is often seen as a more consistent and challenging standard, while CSM from the Scrum Alliance has a broader focus and a larger number of certified Scrum Masters worldwide.
When choosing between PSM I and CSM, it is important to consider the specific requirements and desired focus. Within an organization, it makes sense to focus on one certification organization.
Ultimately, both certifications provide valuable knowledge and skills in the role of Scrum Master and can help improve career prospects in the agile environment. If you are seeking certification as a qualification to improve your job prospects and have a specific employer in mind, it makes sense to find out which certification the company prefers.
The Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I) is a certification offered by Scrum.org and is a qualification comparable to the CSM (Certified ScrumMaster) of the Scrum Alliance. The PSM I is a standardized and recognized credential for an individual's knowledge and skills to successfully fill the role of Scrum Master in agile development teams.
Similar to the CSM, the PSM I provides a comprehensive understanding of Scrum fundamentals, including theory, principles, roles, meetings, and artifacts. Both certifications emphasize the practical application of Scrum in agile product development and demonstrate commitment and expertise in this area.
The choice between PSM I and CSM depends on individual preferences, desired focus, and available training opportunities.
Certification for Teams & Companies
Professional Scrum Master I Trained In-house
An in-house training for PSM I is particularly suitable for companies or teams with a minimum number of 8 participants.
Advantages of an in-house training compared to one of our public trainings are:
- The training content can be adapted to the needs of your company.
- The participants go through an intensive learning process together to ensure that a common understanding emerges.
- In a protected space, participants can share their knowledge as well as different perspectives and experiences within the company.
- The development of a common corporate culture and the implementation of Scrum as a team are strengthened.
In addition, an in-house training with a sufficient number of participants can also offer cost efficiency, as the training costs can be distributed among more people.
We would be happy to provide you with an individual offer.
Professional Scrum Master Training with Volume Discount
Starting with a minimum of 3 participants, you and your colleagues can benefit from our volume discounts for public training offers at the Agile Academy and save money and your training budget.
Compared to our in-house training offers, these discounts provide you with a lot of flexibility and are also very economical if you cannot get enough participants for an in-house training in your own company.
Team members can individually select the training date that fits their schedules. This way, everyone can learn without jeopardizing the company's productivity if everyone is on training at the same time.
In essence, volume discounts offer a more cost-effective solution for high-quality Professional Scrum Master training that combines significant savings with convenient scheduling, making it an attractive choice for organizations striving to enable their Scrum Masters.
Contact us with your special requirements and we are sure to offer you a custom, tailor-made solution for your training needs.
